Practically 11,000 had been retrenched within the last fourteen days, Industrial police data exhibit. Labour leaders, however, say that quantity is much higher.

Out from the 21,331 staff, 19,409 reportedly are garment and textile sector employees, 16,853 are from 86 factories of the Bangladesh Garment Makers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), 2,298 from 16 factories listed with the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and 258 from four mills beneath the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), according to Bangla press reports.

There are a huge selection of industrial units out from the jurisdiction of professional police and the laid-off personnel of the units aren't contained in the data.

The worst sufferers are the workers with less than a year of experience because they are not entitled for any compensation as per regulations.
