An organization of primary assistant teachers called on the government to make their jobs permanent soon. The decision was made on Tuesday by forming a human chain at NAtional Press Club in Dhaka.

President of the organization, Md Ruhul Amin, said "We’ve been working at secondary level schools without any salary going back 26 months. So we request the government to create our jobs long term on humanitarian ground in the Mujib Borsho."

He claimed that Deputy Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury had promised to gratify their demands on February 13 last year, adding “We’re demonstrating here since our demands weren't met.”

5,200 assistant teachers were useful for English, Math and Science for 3 years since 2015 to increase the quality of education across Bangladesh, Ruhul Amin said.

He said the government jointly launched a project with the World Bank in 2008 titled ‘Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancement Project’ (SEQAEP).

The demonstration consisted of hundreds of prospects who passed the federal government primary school recruitment test, reports UNB.

55,000 prospects cleared the written exams for government primary schools in 2018. Only 18,147 of these were appointed, said Zakir Hossain, among the protestors.

“We urge the federal government to appoint the rest of us as there are many vacancies at primary schools," he said.
