Bangladesh- Indian engineering trade show kicks off in Dhaka

Seeking to forge global supply chain with partners from Bangladesh, the three-day Indian engineering trade show titled INDEE Bangladesh 2020 has begun at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) of Dhaka from today.

Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Minister of Industries, Government of Bangladesh formally inaugurated the exhibition at a ceremony held this morning at Hall-1 of ICCB.

Organised by EEPC India, premier Indian trade and investment promotion organisation, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, the exhibition is participated by over 120 leading Indian companies including PSUs like Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Earth Movers among others.

Besides, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, the event is also supported by Bangladeshi apex trade bodies like FBCCI, IBCCI, BEIOA and BEMMA.

Riva Ganguly Das, High Commissioner of India; Ravi Sehgal, Chairman EEPC India; Md Muntakim Ashraf, Senior Vice President, FBCCI; Mahesh K Desai, Senior Vice Chairman and Suranjan Gupta, Executive Director of EEPC India also addressed the inaugural ceremony.

'An impressive economic growth of 8 per cent makes Bangladesh a compelling case for trade and investment,' said Riva Ganguly Das, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. 'Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced year 2020 as the year of Light Engineering products in Bangladesh and INDEE 2020 provides an excellent platform to connect Engineering equipment and machine providers of India and Bangladesh,' she added.

Riva Ganguly pointed out that, 'India and Bangladesh can jointly build a global supply chain and integration in a host of sectors. For instance, since Bangladesh has emerged as a leading exporter of apparels, India could be a partner in supply of textile machinery. Indian engineering industry is quite strong in textile engineering sector. Likewise, Bangladesh has emerged as a leading player in light engineering and engineering products and forge partnership with Indian firms in the sector. As Bangladesh aims to emerge as a modern economy, it would need more and more engineering capabilities, the bedrock of a modern industry.'

According to EEPC India, Bangladesh has emerged as India's major trading partner with bilateral trade exceeding USD 10 billion along with Bangladesh exports crossing the one Billion USD mark in the year 2019.

INDEE Bangladesh 2020 is being held at Hall – 1 and 2 of ICCB from January 22- 24 and opens for trade and general visitors from 11 am to 7 pm every day.

First Edition of INDEE Bangladesh was held from November 2-4, 2017 at ICCB Dhaka and saw the participation of over 100 Indian companies from engineering and allied sectors.
