Bangladesh takes Tk 2.5bn job to create jobs, boost Hilsa production

The government has undertaken a project worth roughly Tk 2.5 billion to improve Hilsa production through measures to save lots of the mother fish and Jatka or fries by creating alternative jobs for the fishermen.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council or ECNEC approved the project titled “Production and Supervision of Hilsa Means” on Tuesday.

The project targets to improve Hilsa production by implementing the Coverage and Conservation of Seafood Act and sanctuary control, Setting up Minister MA Mannan told reporters after the meeting.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the meeting in the NEC via video website link from the Ganabhaban.
The project will generate alternative jobs for 30,000 families of fishermen, the planning minister said

As much as 10,000 fishermen will receive legal fishing nets under the project.

It will raise recognition among the fishermen about the value of saving mom Hilsa and fries, said Md Zakir Hossain Akand, a member of the look Commission.
Tasty Hilsas contribute 11 percent to the full total fish production and 1 percent of the GDP of Bangladesh.

“A lot of the Hilsa on the globe is produced in this region while Bangladesh makes 80 percent of these. But Hilsa breeding and its activity are interrupted for many reasons,” Zakir said, explaining why they initiated the job.

The ECNEC meeting on Tuesday approved a complete of five projects at around cost of over Tk 12.66 billion.
