Bangladesh to get new commercial features post-LDC graduation: FBCCI

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Sector (FBCCI) president Sheikh Fazle Fahim on Saturday said there would be new facilities in trade and commerce to be gained from graduating from the Least Expansion Countries (LDCs), besides enhancing the country’s status.
Fahim also said graduation is a big achievement for Bangladesh. “Foreign investment increase in Bangladesh and you will have more employment generation because of the graduation. It'll boost country’s economy aswell.”
He developed the assertion even though addressing an online workshop titled “Effective Partnership with the Individual Sector for Sustainable Graduation” organised by Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP) of Economic Relations Department.
Fahim added that after LDCs graduation, Bangladesh may face some challenges on International Support Methods (ISM) which include duty and quota free market access, preferential treatments, the TRIPS protocol, etc.
“FBCCI possesses taken initiatives with the support of International Trade Center and international strategic partners over strengthening of trade support establishments, export competiveness, merchandise and industry diversification, no-tariff barriers, standardization and qualification, financial diversification, micro, small, medium-sized enterprises (MSME) support, investment and entrepreneurship, export approach development, upgrading benefit chains,” he added.
“The actions of our capacity building will be studied integrating indigenous inputs with global standard knowledge and all chambers and associations will be one of them platform,” he also added.
Fahim said celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee of the country during LDCs graduation period has become more meaningful, prestigious and colorful.
Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), Primary Minister’s Office and Chair of National Task Pressure over LDC Graduation Zuena Aziz presided over the function and Monetary Relations Division Secretary Fatima Yasmin presented the main element note papers as the Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal MP was the principle guest on the workshop.
