Chinese ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming in Monday said that trade relations and infrastructure cooperation between Bangladesh and China could possibly be influenced temporarily as the return of a good number of Chinese technicians would take time and Bangladeshi companies would not get raw materials promptly because of the coronavirus outbreak on China.
‘A lot of Chinese nationals employed in major assignments in Bangladesh, most of them technicians, engineers and job managers, cannot return on time after the Spring Festival holiday, thus the improvement of these projects might be delayed temporarily,’ the envoy said at a dialogue organised by the Bangladesh China Organization Association at the National Press Club in the capital, Dhaka.
Jiming said that China was the largest source of import for Bangladesh and because of tightened sanitation control at the customs and suspension of operation of several Chinese companies Bangladesh is probably not able to get the goods, and raw materials it needed on time for now.
The ambassador, even so, alleged that rumours were running high that the Chinese economy would lose its steam and economies closely associated with it could suffer the most.
‘Those rumours are not true but can even so affect the confidence of our Bangladeshi friends in employing China,’ he said.
Bangladesh’s businesses, which will be employing China, are concerned more than the outbreak and their considerations are reputable, Jiming said.
‘In view of the problems of the business community, I would like to express, please have faith in China and rest assured,’ the ambassador said.
Jiming said that China would redouble its efforts of growing the market following the virus was defeated and at the moment it would be prematurily . for Bangladeshi businesses to reconsider their organization with China.
Jadab Debnath, president of the BCBA, requested Bangladeshi businesses never to worry for Bangladeshi businesses with the coronavirus outbreak found in China saying that the situation would come in order within 15 days.
‘I am doing business with China for last 17 years and I am confident that the federal government of China gets the strong ability to overcome the epidemic shortly,’ he said.
Jadab said that a few of the businesspeople of Bangladesh were thinking to choose alternative
markets but it wouldn't normally be realistic.
‘If the business enterprise in China collapses, the business would collapse in across the world and this is time to prove that people are the true friend of China,’ he said.
Jadab hoped that the way to obtain recycleables for readymade garment sector wouldn't normally be influenced as the epidemic influenced only 1 province of China where garment accessories were not produced.
Muhammad Zamir, person in advisory committee of Bangladesh Awami League, suggested that the Chinese ambassador upload the most recent status of the epidemic found on the web page of the embassy in Dhaka on daily basis to combat artificial news also to gain confidence of Bangladeshi businesspeople.
‘China is an effective good friend of Bangladesh and we believe in interactive romance with the united states,’ he said.
Awami League facts and exploration secretary Selim Mahmud, Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta and BCBA vice-president Tarun Kanti Das attended the programme, among others.
