BB to allow clients to settle interbank cross cheques during closure
Collected
The central bank yesterday said clients will be permitted to stay their interbank cross cheques to enable the federal government and businesses to supply emergency support to people during the ongoing countrywide closure.
The Bangladesh Lender (BB) had earlier said that the Bangladesh Automated Clearing Property, a platform that is employed to clear interbank cheques, would be closed during the 10-day general holidays announced by the government.
However the central bank yesterday revised its decision and instructed banks to take expected measures to stay the interbank cross cheque, a BB official explained.
Underprivileged people will get their allowances under the social safety net programmes of the federal government as a result of central bank's initiative.
The initiative will help businesses in investing essential commodities, emergency medicines and offer other services, that will ultimately help supply of commodities from one destination to another in the country, the official added.
