Brazilian investment in Bangladesh sought

Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip ASM Feroz yesterday urged Brazilian businessmen to invest in Bangladesh for boosting development process of the two countries as he joined a discussion on trade and investment ties between the two countries.

"The chief whip urged the Brazilian entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh," a parliamentary secretariat press release quoted him as saying at the discussion organized by the Global Economist Forum (GEF) Bangladesh at BGMEA Bhaban in the capital. Firoz appreciated US$300 million Brazilian assistance for disaster management in Bangladesh saying it was a landmark event for mutualcooperation between Bangladesh and Brazil.

"We want to strengthen mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Brazil through exchanging knowledge-sharing on different fields of development," he said.

GEF's Bangladesh chapter officials said they organized the discussion on "Trade and investment between Bangladesh and Brazil" as part of their year-long initiative to promote Bangladesh's business and trade ties with Latin American countries.

President Dr Enayet Karim, among others, addressed the discussion with GEF Bangladesh President Dr Mohammad Haidar Ali Mian in the chair.

GEF wins UN General Membership

International think-tank Global Economist Forum (GEF) has got permanent 'General Consultative Membership' of the United Nations (UN) under its Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). GEF is one of the four organizations, which got the rare UN recognition over the world, awarded on August 01, 2018 at UN headquarters, New York.

 It is the highest category of recognition for any development organization after sovereign states. Bangladesh Chapter of Global Economist Forum has organized a celebration program on Sunday  at Dhaka on the occasion of the achievement. 

Chief Whip of National Parliament A S M Feroz, MP attended the function as chief guest while Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil Mr Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior and Central President of Global Economist Forum Dr Enayet Karim attended as special guests. President of Bangladesh Chapter of Global Economist Forum and Managing Director of Exim Bank Dr Mohammed Haider Ali Miah presided over the function while Secretary General and Managing Director of Standard Bank Dr Mamun-Ur-Rashid delivered inaugural speech. 

After having the 'General Consultative Member-ship'- the Global Economist Forum will work as subsidiary development body of United Nations among the member states with ECOSOC. Speakers at the function have emphasized on the promotion of trade and investment between Bangladesh and Brazil.

GEF will also work next one year for boosting the trade, investment and bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Brazil. In the function, Secretary General of GEF & Managing Director of Standard Bank Dr Mamun-Ur-Rashid and five top officials of GEF Bangladesh chapter received UN accreditation card.
