Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal on Friday stressed on forming a common platform to promote tourism industry in South Asian region, reports BSS.
“We should work together to expand tourism sector capitalizing rich history, heritage, cultural diversification and charming natural beauty,” he told the inaugural function of a three-day Kolkata Travel and Tourism Fair at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium here, an official release said.
Tourism Minister of Indian State of Bihar Promod Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Tourism Board Nikhil Ranjan Roy and top officials of different countries, among others, addressed the function.
Kamal said the South Asian region could be an excellent tourist hub through making the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as an effective organization.
“There is huge potentiality of promoting tourism industry in the region….. Now we have to move collectively to turn South Asian region into tourist hotspots,” he added.
As many as 430 organizations from 13 countries and different Indian states are participating in the fair.
