Commonwealth investment council wants office in Bangladesh

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) aims to determine a hub office in Dhaka to help facilitate further engagements in trade and investment between Bangladesh and other member nations of the Commonwealth through a strategic partnership.

In addition, it invited leading Bangladeshi private sector businesses to become listed on as strategic partners, said Right Honourable (Rt Hon) Sir Hugo Swire KCMG, deputy chairman of CWEIC.

Sir Hugo Swire, also a former UK Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, called on Bangladesh Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal yesterday.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Sheikh Fazle Fahim and CWEIC Director of Business Development AQ Hamza were also present during the meeting.

CWEIC also invited Bangladeshi businesses to become listed on the delegation led by FBCCI to the upcoming Commonwealth Business Forum to be held in Rwanda alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
 
Kamal welcomed the theory expressed by Swire and said that the importance of Bangladesh to the Commonwealth all together and Commonwealth trade specifically is very important.

"Bangladesh has turned into a suitable destination for investment from abroad, that can be utilised by Commonwealth states for mutual benefits," the minister added.
