Dhaka Stock Exchange index nosedives on Monday

The index took a big plunge at the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Monday, although the turnover recorded a healthy increase.

The DSEX, the key index of the bourse, lost 51 points while the turnover was Tk 8.9167 billion, a Tk 1.66 billion jump from Sunday's Tk 7.2549 billion.

The price of a total of 68 shares and mutual funds increased on the day while that of 242 went down.

United Power Generation Company, Fortune Shoes, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company, Peninsula, Alif Industries Limited, Paramount Textile, Square Pharma, Grameenphone, Shurid and ML Dyeing were the day's turnover leaders.

The prices of shares of Peninsula, S Alam Cold Rolled Steels, ICB AMCL Sonali Bank First Mutual Fund, KDS Accessories, Western Marine Shipyard, Summit Alliance Port, Bashundhara Paper Mills, Green Delta Mutual Fund, Southeast Bank First Mutual Fund and Premier Cement increased the most on the day.

On the other hand, the prices of shares of Imam Button, Savar Refractories, Sonargaon, Meghna Condensed Milk, Meghna Pet Industries, Pravati Insurance, Global Insurance, Dulamia Cotton, BD Auto Car and Purabi General Insurance decreased the most.

Meanwhile, the CASPI, the index of Chittagong Stock Exchange, plunged 113 points to 17,541 on the day. The price of a total of 69 shares and mutual funds increased on the day while that of 177 went down and 23 remained unchanged.
