Facebook touts the impression of its renewable energy projects in New Mexico

Social media huge Facebook touted its renewable energy projects in the united states in a recent report, citing the impact of a facility on New Mexico the encompassing local community.

Facebook’s U.S. Renewable Impact Study was released Wednesday to show how the company’s initiatives in wind and solar powered energy benefited 10 states: New Mexico, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, NEW YORK, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia - claims identified, per the article, as having growing market segments for low-carbon energy.

In 2011, Facebook commenced its efforts to support data centers in the united states completely using renewable energy, bringing 55 latest solar and wind projects to time and adding 5,763 megawatts (MW) of “tidy electricity” to the U.S. grid.

The renewable energy developments saw $7.4 billion in capital spending as the assignments during construction supported more than 40,000 and $4.2 billion in gross domestic merchandise (GDP) to the U.S. economy, the article read, between 2014 to 2022.

In New Mexico, that meant 635 MW and 2,283 were taken to the state - the 3rd highest in the study between Texas and the Tennessee Valley Area which includes elements of Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi.

The company’s data center in Los Lunas, south of Albuquerque was opened in 2017 and in a partnership between Facebook and the general public COMPANY of New Mexico (PNM) was supported by completely renewable energy.
