Fahim gets support from association group as FBCCI President

The association leaders lent their support during a discussion on recommendations for the upcoming national budget at Dhaka Club on Sunday

 
Business leader Sheikh Fazle Fahim yesterday got support from the association group, and after a few days, similar support from the chamber group, making way for Fahim to become the next president of the apex trade body.

Fahim, now the senior vice president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), got their support at a meeting of business people.

Fahim is the son of Awami League presidium member and senior parliamentarian, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim.

The association leaders lent their support during a discussion on recommendations for the upcoming national budget at Dhaka Club on Sunday, which was organized by FBCCI.

FBCCI President Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin was chief guest, while Fahim chaired the meeting. Top leaders of various associations attended the discussion.

FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin lauded Fahim’s sincerity and responsible leadership as senior vice president for the current FBCCI committee. All the associations of the country extended their unequivocal support to Fahim for his extraordinary leadership quality, he added.

According to the FBCCI rules, the federation has two panels – the chamber group and the association group. The president and vice president are to be elected from the chamber group, while the post of senior vice chairman is to go to the association group this time, in line with the organization’s charter.

Recently, FBCCI’s election board announced the biennial polls of the federation will be held on April 27.

Total posts of FBCCI directors are 72. Of them, 30 directors will be nominated, while 42 others will be elected equally from chambers and associations.

The nominated directors will also be picked equally from major chambers and associations of the country. The elected directors will elect the president, first vice president, and vice president of FBCCI on April 29.

Sheikh Fazle Fahim was elected director in FBCCI’s 2015-2017 elections. He represented the Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Fazle Fahim is an executive member of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), and is currently the managing director of Obsidian Bangladesh Ltd, a conglomerate with business interests in manufacturing, distribution and EPC.

He is also the chairman of Euro Petro Product Ltd, an LPG terminal and bottling plant.
