First National Industrial Fair begins Sunday

To promote local industrial entrepreneurs’ products and attract foreign investment, the Industries Ministry is organising the ‘First National Industrial Fair-2019’.

The fair will start from Sunday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre and will run until April 6.

Three hundred organisations will showcase locally-made jute goods, food and agro products, leather items, electrical and electronics products, plastics and handicrafts.

This will help Bangladesh woo foreign investors, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said on Saturday, adding that his ministry is organising the fair to build a good relationship with all SME entrepreneurs.

In separate messages, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished the fair a grand success.

President Hamid said the entrepreneurs will have to set up industries aiming to use local raw materials in order to materialise the target of becoming a developed economy as per the goals specified in vision 2021 and vision 2041.

“We have to take necessary steps to boost production of import substitute products using own resources, talent, creativity and innovation to this end,” he said.

“Diversification of export-oriented products and strengthening the efforts of value addition will surely increase our competency to survive successfully in the competitive global market,” the President said.

He hoped the fair will encourage the participating entrepreneurs to expand their products and services at the local and international level through appropriate publicity and market linkage in the upcoming days.

In her message, Prime Minister Hasina said domestic products will be showcased at the first National Industrial Fair-2019. “It will play a positive role in inspiring, attracting and encouraging investors as well as promoting and expanding the market of the domestic products and services,” she said.

“It will create opportunities for sharing mutual experiences and exchange of views among participating organisations,” the prime minister said. “Subsequently, efforts will be made in the coming days to develop the quality and enhance the diversity of the products produced in Bangladesh.”

The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the fair which will be open for all from 10am to 8pm.
