'GDP growth without employment fruitless'
The country is moving fast with steady GDP growth. However, the employment is not increasing in line which is unexpected, said speakers suggesting the government to take the issue seriously, said speakers.
"The number of unemployed people in Bangladesh is 26 lacks according to the government estimation. But is more than one crore in reality. We have to think about the GDP without employment," said Dr Abul Barkat.
He came up with the remark while addressing Citizen's Budget Parliament-2018 as the chief guest at Senate Bhaban on Sunday on Dhaka University campus. Challenging different information and data, the Professor said: "Development doesn't mean merely economic development. Education, Health and many other issues are involved with this.
So, budget management without budget expansion will not be fruitful," said. According to him, local government is at the heart of development. "I think if farmers are not entitled to the subsidy, then nobody should be entitled to it.''
