India to handover 10 broad-gauge locos to Bangladesh

India will handover 10 broad-gauge diesel locomotives to Bangladesh on Monday, providing the neighbouring country flexibility solutions for both intra-nation and inter-country movement, the Railways said.

Senior dignitaries from both countries are expected to flag away the handover, which is conducted via video conferencing, in line with the statement.

The dignitaries include foreign ministers, railways ministers and great commissioners of both the countries, Railway Plank chairman and other folks officials at the neighborhood stations on both sides of the border, it said.

The physical located area of the handover is definitely the Gede station of the Eastern Railway in West Bengal’s Nadia district and the acquiring station of Darshana on the Bangladesh side.

Bangladesh had sent a good proposal to India found in April last year for procurement of the locos, with 72% of its present kinds already crossing their economic life.

The 3300 HP WDM3D locos being given to Bangladesh have a residual lifestyle of 28 years or more and are suitable for a speed of 120 kmph. They are suitable for hauling freight and also passenger trains and also have a microprocessor-centered control system.

“It can help in activity within Bangladesh along with inter country activity,” the statement said.

“The Railways has modified the locos to match the maximum elevation restrictions in BR (Bangladesh Railway),” it said. “We are keen to spouse with BR for supply and maintenance of most types of rolling stock”

These locos would provide improved upon train businesses within the BR and in addition for interchange with the Indian Railways, and strengthen the partnership between both transporters, according to the statement.

According to reports via Bangladesh, the BR got till May this past year 178 metre-gauge (MG) locomotives, out of which 139 have crossed their 20-year monetary life. Of its 90 BG locomotives, 55 have completed their economic life.
