Indian personnel at Rampal project protest demanding go back to home

Indian personnel at Rampal Power Plant in Bagerhat on Sunday staged demonstration again seeking their return to the country amid outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

A lot more than 400 Indian workers came out from the power plant project office each morning and gathered at Baburbari crossing on the Khulna-Mongla highway to stage protest there.

When members of law enforcing agencies barred them to move forward, they sit in at the crossing and continued demonstration till 2.00pm.

Later, authorities of power plant project and police officials found the spot and staff called off their protest after had a talking with them.

Earlier, the personnel staged protest demanding the same point on, may 4.

Workers alleged that they are devoid of the facility to communicate with family members amid the coronavirus crisis and authorities aren't allowing them to go back in country.

Md Rejaul Karim, deputy director of the project, said, “All communications are halted because of coronavirus pandemic. We had a discussion with Indian High Commissioner and they are trying to take the staff back to the country.”

District deputy commissioner Md Mamunur Rashid held a crisis ending up in administration officials including superintendent of police Pankaj Chandra Roy to go over the issues associated with Rampal Power Plant.

“Being informed of workers’ protest, we rushed to the location. We will solve the problem in discussion with power plant authorities,” said the DC.

A total of just one 1,802 foreign personnel now work at  the power plant, of these, 1,344 employees are Indians while 21 Chinese.
