Jet Airways extends cancellation of operations to Dhaka

Jet Airways has extended its suspension of operations to Dhaka till May for ‘operational reasons’, the airline said in a statement made on April 11.

Earlier, the airline which is in severe financial crisis announced that flights from/to Dhaka will remain cancelled till the end of April. However, the cancellation has been extended now till the end of May.

One flight on Dhaka-Delhi-Dhaka route is suspended till May 5 along with two flights on Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka route and Dhaka-Mumbai-Dhaka route. Another flight on Dhaka-Delhi-Dhaka route is suspended till May 31.

Jet Airways continues to grapple with financial woes while grounding planes, delaying salaries, defaulting on loans and laying off staff. Its management has estimated the airline won’t survive beyond April without a fund infusion.

Hence, the lenders of the airline have put stakes on sale as part of a rescue plan. Five companies are said to have submitted expressions of interest (EoI) in picking up stakes in Jet Airways.

However, the lenders have extended the April 10 deadline by two days, in the hope that Etihad Airways, which hasn’t submitted an EoI yet, will show interest.

The delay is said to be a concern for the aviation ministry, which feels that this will hurt revival chances of the airways.
