Knitwear factories in N’ganj closed till April 4: BKMEA

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) today announced closure of knitwear factories in Narayanganj till April 4 -- in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

BKMEA President AKM Salim Osman, who's also Jatiya Party lawmaker of Narayanganj-5 constituency, announced your choice in a press statement today.

In the statement, Osman said the government has prohibited public gathering and movement in public areas transports and shut down all hotels and restaurants to avoid the spread of the virus.

Alongside these, regulations enforcement agencies are advising persons never to walk together on the streets -- leading to difficulties for the workers in the sector, the BKMEA president said.

"Under these circumstances, we want our factories to stay closed till April 4," Osman said calling after all owners of knitwear factories to pay salaries for the month of March with their staff in due time.

Calling upon the personnel in the sector to remain safe within their respective homes during the shutdown, Osman said he announced the closure within safety measures.
