Metito-led consortium wins 55MWe solar project with $0.0748/kWh bid

A consortium led by Dubai-headquartered water management solutions provider Metito Group – which incorporates solar energy producer, Jinko Power, and therefore the energy and water arm of Saudi's AlJomaih company , AlJomaih Energy and Water – has been awarded the Rangunia 55 megawatts electric (MWe) ac grid-tied solar energy plant project by the govt of Bangladesh.

The project was awarded to the consortium by the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) following approval from the facility Division of the government's Ministry of Power, Energy, and natural resource (MPEMR).

The consortium was recognised by BPDB because the lowest bidder with a tariff of $0.0748/kWh, accounting for rock bottom tariff ever reported in Bangladesh.

The project, which is predicted to be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis under a 20-year concession agreement, is in line with Bangladesh's vision to scale back environmental pollution .

The solar energy plant are going to be constructed in Rangunia, in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on a BPDB-provided land. The project is predicted to be commissioned by the last half of the year 2021.

The power plant is predicted to be connected to the 132/33 kilovolts Chandraghona grid substation by one circuit 132 kilovolts line.

The solar energy plant will mark Metito’s first second energy project in Bangladesh.

Commenting on the project win, chief military officer of Aljomaih Energy and Water, Ibrahim M Aljomaih, said: "This milestone renewable project demonstrates our commitment to the Bangladeshi Energy Sector, which is that the primary growth engine for the whole Bangladeshi economy. AlJomaih Energy and Water has operated during this critical sector in Bangladesh for the past 12 years and that we are pleased to reaffirm our confidence within the country's economy."
