The Cycleoop uses GPS and cellular signals to track a bike that is stolen or tampered with and alerts the owner of the bike's location of the bicycle. It will retail for $99 at launch and then $149. It's available now for consumer online pre-order; the company also is seeking retailers to stock the product.
The company has shipped more than 40,000 devices worldwide. It is one of the top three specialist motorcycle trackers worldwide by market share, according to the company. "At Monimoto we handle an average of 189 motorcycle security incidents per week, helping to stop theft in its tracks or significantly aid stolen bike recovery. We are building on our motorcycle security expertise to offer the same grade of protection to urban commuters," said Bruno Rimkunas, head of business development at Monimoto.
"Bicycles are getting more expensive each year. The advent of electric bikes and scooters pushes the value of ridables even further. This calls for advanced security solutions in the micromobility market."
The Cycloop security system includes three components: the Cycloop device, a keyfob and a smartphone app. The device mounts on the frame. The keyfob is used to identify the bike's owner. When Cycloop detects a keyfob in proximity, it automatically disarms the device.
If Cycloop detects movement without the keyfob in proximity, it calls the owner to inform that the bike is tampered with and that a theft could be in progress. It tracks the bike's location via GPS, updating it as the bike moves and displaying the last known location on the smartphone app. Users can share the information can be shared with authorities to help recover the bike.
Cycloop is designed, developed and manufactured in Europe. The device is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. Its battery is rechargeable via USB-C cable; the battery is said to last for up to a year. It also has a customizable LED lighting feature.
