Motorola, the American handset maker which used to guideline the roost in the last area of the century, ideas to create a manufacturing plant in Bangladesh, within its game method to seize a bigger talk about of the country’s fast-growing smartphone market.

After a gap of a decade, last month Motorola built its re-entry to the crowded Bangladeshi handset market, where local brand Walton prospects. Chinese brands like Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, realme and South Korean giant Samsung all successful for themselves.

So, affordability will be the key to market penetration for Motorola. But that's made tough by the 57 % duty on handset imports. Regional assembly or manufacturing, for which the tax is 18 per cent and 13 % respectively, would support Motorola's cause.

At the moment, household brands like Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, with the South Korean electronics giants manufacturing its flagship device the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G locally.

If Motorola, which is currently owned by Chinese Lenovo, follows through on its system, it could be the tenth foreign manufacturer to set up a plant in Bangladesh.

Motorola’s re-access to Bangladesh shows up at the same time when consumers are fast switching to smartphone from characteristic phone thanks to the global coronavirus pandemic, which includes turbocharged digitalisation.

Hossain’s comment came at the launch of Motorola’s moto g9 plus, its third smartphone rollout in per month, buoyed by the huge response the handset maker got following its re-entry.

“We will be delighted with the success of our recently launched smartphones and are overwhelmed by the love from buyers in Bangladesh for our manufacturer and products,” said Prashanth Mani, managing director of Motorola Mobility for SAARC countries.

The model -- the moto g9 plus -- premiered in Bangladesh ahead of its subcontinental neighbours. The handset will be available solely on Daraz and at a discounted price of Tk 25,999 on the e-commerce platform’s forthcoming 12.12 revenue campaign. 

The moto g9 plus is the innovative of Motorola’s recent launches and comes filled with industry-leading features including 64MP quad camera system, ultra-fast Snapdragon 730G processor, 6GB RAM, large 5000mAh battery with 30W TurboPower charging and a 6.8” HDR10 display.
