New SME registrations estimated at 3,059 in first half
Muscat: The number of new small and medium enterprise (SME) registrations in Oman stood at 3,059 in the first half of 2018, down from 4,778 new registrations during the same period last year, according to monthly figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The SME units include medium, small, and micro-business enterprises.
Among various governorates, Muscat Governorate saw 1,123 new registrations of SME units from January to June 2018, constituting 36.7 per cent of total new registrations. This number, however, represents a decrease from the 1,654 new registrations recorded during the same period last year, revealed the NCSI report, quoting data from the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada).
The number of new SME registrations in North Al Batinah stood at 475 during the January to June 2018 period, making up 15.5 per cent of total registrations, and down against 701 during the same period last year. This was followed by A'Dakhiliyah with 348, South Al Batinah with 236, Dhofar with 200, North A'Sharqiyah with 201, South A'Shariqiyah with 184, A'Dhahirah with 154, Al Buraimi with 102, Al Wusta with 20, and Musandam with 16.
