Over 900 foreigners still left Bangladesh on special flights during coronavirus travelling curbs

Most of them were standard visitors who had arrived in Bangladesh prior to the COVID-19 outbreak and were marooned as the standard flight operations were suspended, the foreign ministry reported in a statement about Sunday.
As they began to call the embassies and high commissions with requests for the repatriation, the missions undertook procedures in collaboration with the government to set up chartered flights, the declaration said.
About 85 percent of the US-bound passengers are Bangladeshi-born US citizens and permanent residents who travel to “reunite with their own families and accompany them at that time if they need them virtually all”, it said.
“A significant number of PRs (permanent residents) had to visit back to the united states prior to the deadline period, a legal obligation that should be obliged by all PRs,” it added.
A lot of Japanese and Russians who've left and are along the way of leaving were engaged in several projects which are not functioning, the foreign ministry said.
“So these authorities and consultants have decided to join their own families as currently they don't have much work. When the circumstances normalises, all of them are expected to return,” it said.
Amongst others, a “good number” of foreign students learning in Bangladesh have flown back and are along the way of leaving as all the educational institutions are shut.
“Found in the same spirit, the federal government remains focused on providing adequate health establishments and support to the foreign citizens and PRs living inside region, particularly diplomats and their own families,” the ministry said.
