Participation jumps by 57% at Bangladesh Denim Expo

The number of exhibitors jumped by more than 57% at the just concluded 11th edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo. A total of 99 exhibitors from 11 countries took part the international exposition to display their latest products and services. The countries included: Bangladesh, China, Japan, Italy, India, Singapore, Brazil, Spain, Pakistan, Turkey and Germany. The 99 exhibitors were selected out of 327 registered companies across the world, organizers said, adding that more than 5,692 visitors from 56 countries visited the show.
Due to unprecedented demand from exhibitors and visitors, the latest expo was expanded to offer a broader selection of leading companies from the denim sector, providing a comprehensive insight into the latest development in denim trends, technology and sustainable advance, the organizers explained. For the first time, H&M Group, the Swedish multinational clothing-retailer, collaborated with Bangladesh Denim Expo in the expo, which was held at the International Convention City, Bashundhara in Dhaka on November 5-6.
Earlier, 63 exhibitors from across the globe including Germany, USA, Turkey, Italy, Singapore, Spain, Pakistan, Japan, China and India participated at the 10th edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo, held at the same venue in Dhaka on May 2-3.
The theme of the 11th edition of the expo was “Responsibility.” It addressed the level of social, environmental and economic responsibility that will help the apparel industry to ensure the products that are produced in the most ethical, environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. Exhibitors as well as experts expressed their satisfaction about the event, saying that it has helped generate new practices and understanding of the responsibility that will help make the apparel and clothing industry sustainable in the future.
The observations were made at the two-day long expo where industry stakeholders from home and abroad discussed and debated the roles of the industry’s responsibility. “Every stakeholders involved in denim industry have a degree of responsibility. Responsibility is about environment, it’s about climate change, about circularity, sourcing, working conditions etc.,” Mostafiz Uddin, founder and CEO of the Bangladesh Denim Expo, said.
“So being responsible and accountable to the Earth and workers, it is the duty of all stakeholders in the apparel industry to acknowledge the responsibility and to analyze our business practices, for the benefit of all,” Uddin, also managing director of denim manufacturer Denim Expert Limited, explained.
Talking to SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL, Shams Mahmud, managing director of Shasha Denims Limited, said such actype of international-standard expo will help improve the country’s apparel and clothing sector image in the global market. “Only denim should be focused at the expo that will help increasing sourcing from Bangladesh in the near future,” Sayeed Ahmad Chowdhury, general manager of Square Denim Limited, told SI while replying to a query. The expo has been magnetized by the presence of a number of guest speakers including Andrew Olah, founder of Kingpins denim trade show; Alice Tonello, R&D director of Tonello, denim designer and expert Piero Turk and Jordi Juani, Asia regional director of Jeanologia.
The event’s goal was to showcase Bangladesh’s growth potential in the denim industry. At it buyers, manufacturers and professionals shared experiences on the latest trends of fashions and innovation in technology. The expo served to promote Bangladesh to a wider audience and to offer the opportunity for the local apparel industry to gain contacts, knowledge and business opportunities from the international denim professionals and experts who attended. The next expo will be held at the same venue in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on April 6-7, 2020.
