PM: Keep environment in mind while setting up industries
The government has taken steps to introduce waste management system wherever any industry is set up, the prime minister said, and hoped other would follow the example
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged all concerned parties to keep environmental issues in mind when setting up industries.
"You must keep all environmental issues in mind, so that there is no degradation when establishing industries," she said.
The prime minister made the remarks during the inauguration of the Savar Leather Industrial City and Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients (API) Industrial City at Gojaria in Munshiganj district, and Sirajganj district, under Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), through a videoconference from her office, reports UNB.
Sheikh Hasina said her government has taken steps to set up waste management systems wherever there is industrialization, and hoped everyone will follow the example in the future.
Bangladesh’s economy is agriculture-driven; however, industrialization, alongside agriculture, can help the economy move forward at a faster pace, she further said.
Through long and short-term projects, the government is now implementing these, and the people of the country are experiencing positive results from them, the prime minister said. "We have to move forward to become a developed country."
Sheikh Hasina further said her government is setting up 100 economic zones across the country to increase job opportunities.
The government has also encouraged private sectors to come up with their own investments.
"We have taken a number of steps to attract foreign and local investments," the premier said.
