Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development authority is seeking proposals from people in the UAE for the design of a new tourism attraction to be based in the northern emirate.
Interested participants can create their concepts for the new adventure tourism attraction to be located at Jebel Jais, the country’s highest mountain.
According to organisers, designs must enhance Ras Al Khamiah’s tourism offerings while paying tribute to the emirate’s culture and heritage. The winning design will also need to be shareable across social media and founded on sustainable principles.
The idea must use Jebel Jais as the location, but other than that there are no specific design restrictions – so feel free to get as creative as you can. You can submit your entry in any graphic form. This includes paintings, sketches, photography and digital imaging.
Ideas for the Think for the Peak contest must be sustainable and use Jebel Jais as the primary location. The winning entry will highlight the local cultural and heritage aspects of Ras Al Khaimah and its designer will win Dh100,000.
The contest is open to students, entrepreneurs and individuals across the country and the winner will receive Dh100,000, plus a certificate recognising their design as the best and a day of mentoring with the head of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.
“The positioning of the proposed product idea pitches, should highlight the emirate’s diverse landscape, encompassing of lush mangrove trees, undulating terracotta desert and awe-inspiring vistas of the majestic Hajar mountains,” said Raki Philips, chief executive of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.
The home of adventure
Ras Al Khaimah has positioned itself as the country’s adventure destination. Jebel Jais is already home to the world’s longest zip line, a via ferrata and an elevated viewing deck, as well as a newly opened zip line tour. Plans for the country’s first bungee jump are also already in the works in the emirate.
Adventure travel is one of the fastest growing segments in the tourism industry. Trips should incorporate at least two out of three major elements desirable to travellers – connection with nature, interaction with culture or physical activity – according to the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
Whether you fancy yourself as a budding designer or are a keen adventurer seeking more adrenaline-fueled activities in the UAE, you can submit your entry online before Wednesday, November 20. Winners will be announced on Sunday, December 22.
