Samsung Reportedly Still Undecided On Its Foldable Phone’s Hinge

Last week Samsung officially took the wraps off their foldable smartphone. However the unveiling wasn’t really much of an unveiling where we only got to see the foldable screen in action, but in terms of a design, it’s still anyone’s guess as to what the phone could look like. In fact last we heard, Samsung was still undecided on its design.

Now according to the latest reports out of Korea (via SamMobile), it pretty much corroborates what we have heard so far, and that is Samsung has yet to finalize their choice of design. The company is said to be still debating the choice of the hinge for the phone, where apparently a supplier has sent the company as many as five hinge designs to choose from.

One of the hinge designs is said to leave a small gap between the panels, which means that in the event that the phone is dropped, the panels will not shatter as easily. Another hinge design offered is where users can angle the screen in multiple angles similar like a laptop. However Samsung’s choice ultimately hinges (pun intended) on the final design of the phone, where depending on the UI, Samsung will then choose a hinge that’s appropriate.

It is also expected that Samsung will ultimately make a decision in the coming months as they are said to officially unveil the device in full in February, 2019 (which is when MWC takes place), with a potential release set for March.
