Team Equilibrium wins Inter University Capital Market Case Competition

The winning team received Tk100,000 and an internship opportunity with BICM.
 
Dhaka University’s Team Equilibrium has emerged victorious in an inter-university capital market case competition, jointly organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

Team Fantastic 4 of BRAC University won the second place in the competition, while Team Consensus of Dhaka University won the third place at final round of the competition held on Wednesday at Dhaka’s The Westin hotel.

Speaking at the event, BICM Executive President Mohammad Abdul Hannan Zoarder said that they had organized the competition to engage the interest of university-level students towards the capital market. 

“Our capital markets will be benefittedif university students lead them,” he added.

The winning team received Tk100,000 and an internship opportunity with BICM. While the first runner-up received Tk50,000, the second runner-up received Tk30,000. 

Secretary of Bank and Financial Institutions Division at the Ministry of Finance Md Ashadul Islam and Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman M Khairul Hossain handed over the prize money to the competition winners.

Speaking at the event, the BSEC Chairman pointed out that Bangladesh’s capital market was lagging behind neighbouring India, whose share capital is about 90% of their GDP, and Singapore, whose share capital is about 220% of their GDP. 

“In Bangladesh, the share capital is only about 20% of our GDP since our market still has a long way to go,” he added. 

State Minister for Finance M A Mannan was present as the chief guest of the event.

Based on their performance in the previous rounds, a panel of judges on Saturday had selected ten teams for the final round. 

Earlier, they had selected 30 teams from 202 online applications made by students of 34 different public and private universities of Bangladesh.
