"Travel Matters" during this year's National Tourism Week
Travel matters" is the motto for this year's National Tourism Week, and there are numbers to back up that statement.
1 in 9 jobs is supported by travel, with more than 1,400 in North Platte alone. Mayor Dwight Livingston read a proclamation declaring this national tourism week and the importance of it this afternoon.
Lisa Burke is the executive director of the North Platte and Lincoln County Visitor's Bureau. Burke shared how much revenue is accumulated from tourism locally each year.
"We also generate over 100 million dollars in sales revenue generated from tourism sales in just Lincoln County. That's for each year, over 100 million dollars. It's a big deal for Lincoln County and we like to celebrate that and educate people what tourism does here locally," said Burke.
Burke says the community works together very well to promote tourism.
"We're lucky here in North Platte, we all work together well. The hotels work together well. That's important that we're all working together in the same direction," remarked Burke.
The Lincoln County Visitor's Bureau will visit nearly 100 tourism related locations this week to thank them for their good work. They also will drop off tourism promotion items like maps and brochures.
