Airlines operating from the UAE and Qatar cancelled more flights to Iran on Saturday, following similar action a day earlier, as widespread unrest continues in the country.

UAE and Qatar airlines suspend flights to Iran amid civil unrest, with Tehran flight delays from Dubai and Iran flight cancellations Saturday affecting Emirates and flydubai. Protests and a digital blackout continue to disrupt travel.

Emirates and flydubai flights to Tehran are either suspended or delayed, data published by Dubai Airports shows. A flydubai service at 4.45pm, however, appears to remain on schedule.

Services to the Iranian cities of Bandar Abbas, Lar, Mashhad and Shiraz have also been cancelled, except for one flydubai flight to Mashhad scheduled

at 12.55pm. Flights operated by Iran Air, Mahan Air and Qeshm Air to and from Dubai continue as normal. In Qatar, Saturday flights from Doha to Tehran have also been cancelled, but services are on schedule for Sunday, Hamad International Airport's website shows.

A flydubai representative told The National on Friday that the low-cost carrier was "in direct contact with passengers whose travel plans have been affected. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and revise our flight schedule accordingly".

The National has reached out to Emirates airline and Dubai Airports for further comment.

Iranians are protesting against the country's dire economic state, amid the plummeting value of the rial and soaring cost of living.

The country is in the grip of a "digital blackout", as the government limits mobile internet access, exacerbating the chaos.
