US CDC to find Covid-19 carriers found in six Bangladesh cities

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is defined to launch by this month a serological survey to find Covid-19 carriers in six major Bangladesh cities.
 
“It [the research findings] gives us many more information how good we are controlling the virus,” CDC‘s Bangladesh Region Director Dr Michael Friedman told BSS within an special interview along with another reports agency.

Friedman said the study would give an indication about the percentage of Bangladesh people who right now developed Covid-19 antibody in their blood serum.

He said the analysis was expected aswell to supply the possible pandemic situation found in the South Asian nation while it would take six weeks to handle the survey found in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur.

“We be prepared to get the effect by end of January,” Friedman added.

Bangladesh’s Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Study (IEDCR) and Dhaka-based International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research (ICDDR’B) earlier completed a nearly identical analysis in October which found around 45% of Dhaka citizens were carrying the coronavirus antibody.

Friedman, a public overall health expert by background, said CDC on theory suggests reopening of academic institutions regardless of the pandemic from “general public health point of view” pointing out that Universe Health Organisation (WHO) aswell supports the idea.

He said kids are less vulnerable to Covid-19 and much less likely to transmit the virus to adults.

“Are school dangerous for spreading Covid-19, no it’s not true for Covid-19, it’s authentic for influenza . . . it (Covid-19) is not like influenza ” Friedman explained.

The US health official said WHO guideline in addition has suggested all Covid-19 hit countries to attempt to keep schools open amid this pandemic.

Friedman, however, admitting university reopening amid the pandemic was a controversial issue and a “huge problem” for policymaker but “if you ask me personally, you have a choice between closing institutions and closing restaurants. I would claim close the restaurants but keep schools open”.

Friedman said he believed policymakers across the globe were virtually sacrificing the small generation’s future to safeguard current generation of men and women by keeping the universities close.

He said online education may appear effective in advanced countries having all digital conveniences “but for the vast majority of students [found in less developed countries] . . . don’t have the same capacity and resources”.

Friedman said physical occurrence in class comes with an extra gain for health promotion aswell as the global learning suggested that the feminine education particularly support develop good health practices at household levels.

“We must understand open public health implications of failing to have kids likely to school for a calendar year,” he said.

Friedman lauded Bangladesh’s measures so far in striking a harmony between business functions and safety measures against the pandemic.
 
“Government of Bangladesh has so far done very good job balancing between your two …. That’s the tough balance,” he said.

Friedman said enforcement of social distancing was a hard task in Bangladesh but mask mandates for all people simultaneously with side washing may help the country support the second wave of the pandemic.

Friedman is a good dual-board certified physician in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine with a good different 27 years of US and global work encounter in four continents.

As the CDC Bangladesh country director he primarily targets public health systems strengthening, applied public health study, and the implementation of the Global Health Protection Agenda.
