Payments technology company Visa rolled out its 'Click to Pay' service in the centre East on Wednesday, aimed at allowing its customers to create quick and secure online payments.
The Click to Pay icon will be displayed on participating merchants’ websites and consumers who choose to use it won't have to complete forms giving details such as for example their card number, password or shipping address to create purchases.
“Whenever the consumer sees Click to Pay icon next to your logo, it means that merchant is linked with Visa … that merchant can access the users’ data saved remotely around,” Hadi Raad, vice president and head of digital solutions for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa in Visa, told The National.
To make certain that customers’ data is safe, the US-based company is using tokenisation technology that replaces a user’s 16-digit account number with a secure token that protects the underlying card number from fraudsters.
“[The] actual card number will never be shared with the merchants … only a good token will be shared which will work simply in the context of [a] Click to Pay transaction. Moreover, customers will choose their own whether to utilize this service or not,” stated Mr Raad.
Click to Pay helps you to save customers time and minimise the scope for “errors and frictions found in online purchases”, he added.
“Online transactions involve many frictions as being customers need to manually put information on different merchants’ sites. There are cases if they generate mistakes and abandon the purchase in-between or move to other merchants, triggering a loss to the business enterprise.”
First launched in america in October last year, Click to Pay had a lot more than 10,000 merchants registered by January.
In the centre East, the service is from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. Other regional markets will observe soon, explained Mr Raad.
“We've plans to expand but I cannot supply the timeline. Eventually, we wish this experience to become global standard.
“A huge selection of regional merchants have previously chosen this service”, he added, without disclosing an exact number. Some of the early adopters incorporate Emirates, Etisalat, Freedom Pizza and Kcal.
Mr Raad said that Visa is expecting a solid response from customers as many more people are opting for online shopping as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.
A Visa-commissioned survey carry on month revealed that more consumers are shopping on the internet, with two-thirds of UAE buyers making their first online grocery acquire through the outbreak, and 70 % making their first online obtain pharmacies.
Visa is also dealing with other payment providers found in the region such as for example Checkout.com, Noon payments and PayGate in a good bid to streamline payment processes.
It will provide a “seamless interface for buyers and we are excited to take it to our merchants”, said Sebastian Reis, executive vice president, global e-commerce at Checkout.com.
“This will empower our merchants to obtain additional value from every transaction,” he added.
