Security analysts have uncovered security flaws in the VLC media player. Cyber miscreants can distribute malware on the device using their software defects. VideoLAN, the creator of VLC software, has acknowledged the issue.
According to a report by NDTV, the popular open source video streaming app VLC recently reported more than 3 billion downloads worldwide. However, the security error in the software came out within a few days of that success. Hackers can execute service attack on a computer, corrupt files, steal data by using this error. So far, it has not been confirmed whether any computer has been the victim of such attacks.
Experts at the security firm CERT-Bund first brought the error to light. According to their information, the error was found in the VLC player of Windows, Unix and Linux operating systems.
VideoLAN authorities said that work has begun to solve the problem. The work is already 60 percent done. Apart from that, there have been allegations of the VLC player being shut down repeatedly. Work is ongoing to solve that problem too.
