ADNOC to build blue ammonia facility in UAE found in clean energy push
Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. plans to create a blue ammonia development plant as the UAE's biggest energy maker seeks to become leader in clean strength products, including hydrogen.
Register Now The service, to be built-in the professional hub of Ruwais found in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, could have the capacity to produce 1 million mt/yr of blue ammonia, ADNOC said in a May 24 statement.
The facility, the main TA'ZIZ professional park in Ruwais, is envisaged to begin production in 2025. ADNOC didn't disclose the price tag on the project. Blue ammonia is manufactured out of nitrogen and blue hydrogen, which is created from fossil fuels, with the CO2 by-product from hydrogen creation captured and stored.
"As we collectively navigate the global strength changeover, we believe hydrogen, and its own carrier fuels such as for example ammonia, offer assurance and probable as zero carbon strength sources," Sultan al-Jaber, CEO of ADNOC, said found in the statement.
Currently ADNOC produces 300,000 mt/year of hydrogen and has plans to improve capacity to more than 500,000 mt/year. ADNOC's Al Reyadah job can capture 800,000 mt/year of CO2 from regional UAE steel production and the business plans to boost its carbon take utilization and storage potential to 5 million mt/year by 2030.
Hydrogen agreements
ADNOC has struck a number of hydrogen agreements since the end of last year, when Abu Dhabi's former Supreme Petroleum Council mandated the national essential oil producer to become leader in the development of hydrogen.
The UAE and ADNOC are eyeing hydrogen exports mainly to Asian countries and companies. ADNOC offers signed hydrogen agreements with Japan's Ministry of Market, Trade and Industry (METI) and South Korea's GS Energy.
In January, Japan's METI struck the 1st fuel ammonia cooperation handle ADNOC as Tokyo intends to develop its supply chain of the commodity possibly in the centre East by the later 2020s.
In April, the UAE energy ministry signed a cooperation agreement with Japan's METI under which Tokyo will consider growing a global hydrogen supply chain with the UAE under its first of all bilateral hydrogen cooperation deal since it accelerates efforts to deploy large-scale utilization of hydrogen.
ADNOC has awarded the original front-end engineering and style contract (Pre-FEED) for the blue ammonia task and six additional TA'ZIZ chemicals assignments to Lumber. TA'ZIZ is a joint venture between ADNOC and ADQ, a sovereign wealth fund.
ADNOC may also undertake a good feasibility study on the way to obtain blue hydrogen to the ammonia project from its businesses in Ruwais. Final financial commitment for the ammonia task is expected in 2022.
The UAE's energy ministry, ADNOC, ADQ and sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Expense Co. have created a hydrogen alliance to market the production and make use of the petrol in the UAE and ultimately to export markets.
In 2018, ADNOC announced plans to get $45 billion with partners to build up its localized downstream activities, like the expansion of its Ruwais refinery and petrochemical capacity in the commercial hub.
