Apple shares its own iPhone XS review roundup, focusing entirely on the positives
Today was iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max review day – meaning the first reviews of Apple’s latest smartphones hit the web. As we noted this morning in our roundup, the story was pretty consistent among reviewers: a small update from the iPhone X, and it might be best to wait for the XR.
Now, Apple has shared its own roundup of iPhone XS reviews, and as you would expect, the company focuses on the positives…
Apple’s review roundup is headlined by a GIF touting reviewers claiming the iPhone XS is a “benchmark for the entire industry” or “amazing in every regard.”
Apple then goes on to pull specific quotes from select iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max reviews. For instance, this quote from TechCrunch’s review:
“In terms of CPU performance the world’s first at-scale 7nm architecture has paid dividends. You can see from the iPhone XS benchmarks that it compares favorably to fast laptops and easily exceeds iPhone X performance.”
The New York Times:
“Apple did a terrific job of increasing screen size without adding bulk or compromising the usability of the [iPhone] XS Max. … These changes amounted to meaningful improvements in ergonomics and overall convenience.”
Apple also highlights the review from Virgil Abloh, founder of fashion brand OFF-WHITE and a Louis Vuitton artistic director:
“It feels great to have a new device that’s optimized for speed. The time it takes to open an app is the difference between me forgetting an idea or not. With iPhone XS Max, I can do tasks more quickly, and features like the Camera feel more refined than ever before. All these little things are welcome updates that make the workflow from my creative standpoint easier.” — Virgil Abloh, founder of OFF-WHITE and Louis Vuitton artistic director
Apple’s review roundup, however, doesn’t mention some of the qualms reviewers had with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, or those who said you should wait to see what the iPhone XR brings in October. Many reviewers agreed that the iPhone XS is likely not worth the upgrade for most iPhone X users, just as we suggested last night.
For instance, Mashable said that holding off for the iPhone XR is a wise decision, as it packs nearly all the same features at a lower price point:
If the prices are still a turn-off, consider holding off until the iPhone XR launches in late October; it starts at $749 and has virtually all of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max features minus the superior OLED screens and secondary rear camera. Plus it comes in colors like blue, red, yellow, and coral.
