Bangladesh ascends two positions

Bangladesh ascends two positions to 176 in the World Bank’s ranking of the ease of doing business, according to the Doing Business- 2017, a World Bank group flagship report. 

Bangladesh’s distance to frontier (DTF) score, which used to compile the rankings in the Doing Business report, stood at 40.84 per cent in the 2017 report, up from 40.68 per cent a year ago.
Only Afghanistan (183) among the eight South Asian countries came in lower than Bangladesh in the report, “Doing Business 2017: Equal Opportunity for All”, which was released Tuesday.
Bhutan topped the ranking (73) in South Asia, followed by Nepal (107), Sri Lanka (110), India (130), Maldives (135), and Pakistan (144).
According Doing Business report, starting a business in Bangladesh requires 9.0 procedures, takes 19.5 days, costs 13.8 per cent of income per capita for men, and requires 9.0 procedures, takes 19.5 days, costs 13.8 per cent of income per capita for women.

The report said, dealing with construction permits there requires 14.2 procedures, takes 269.0 days and costs 2.7 per cent of the warehouse value. 
Globally, Bangladesh stands at 138 in the ranking of 190 economies on the ease of dealing with construction permits. The rankings for comparator economies and the regional average ranking provide other useful information for assessing how easy it is for an entrepreneur in Bangladesh to legally build a warehouse.
The report said, getting electricity there requires 9.0 procedures, takes 428.9 days and costs 2860.9 per cent of income per capita. 
Globally, Bangladesh stands at 187 in the ranking of 190 economies on the ease of getting electricity. The rankings for comparator economies and the regional average ranking provide another perspective in assessing how easy it is for an entrepreneur in Bangladesh to connect a warehouse to electricity.
According to data collected by Doing Business, registering property there requires 8.0 procedures, takes 244.0 days and costs 7.0 per cent of the property value. 
Globally, Bangladesh stands at 185 in the ranking of 190 economies on the ease of registering property. 
The rankings for comparator economies and the regional average ranking provide other useful information for assessing how easy it is for an entrepreneur in Bangladesh to transfer property.
Globally, Bangladesh stands at 157 in the ranking of 190 economies on the ease of getting credit. The rankings for comparator economies provide useful information for assessing how well regulations and institutions in Bangladesh support lending and borrowing.
The economy has a score of 5.7 on the strength of minority investor protection index, with a higher score indicating stronger protections.
Globally, Bangladesh stands at 70 in the ranking of 190 economies on the strength of minority investor protection index. While the indicator does not measure all aspects related to the protection of minority investors, a higher ranking does indicate that an economy’s regulations offer stronger minority investor protections against self-dealing in the areas measured.
Globally, Bangladesh stands at 173 in the ranking of 190 economies on the ease of trading across borders.
