Bangladesh government more likely to finalise Tk 2.25tn development budget

The government will probably approve a Tk 2.25 trillion worth of twelve-monthly development program (ADP) for another fiscal year with a special priority to medical sector, officials explained on Sunday.

They said the health sector allocation is defined to increase by 33 % to Tk 173.06 billion for the FY2021-22.

The Planning Commission (PC) is scheduled to place the ADP proposal before the National Economic Council (NEC) tomorrow (Tuesday) for necessary approval, planning division joint secretary Md Sayduzzaman told the FE.

Primary Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to preside above the NEC meeting, he said.

Previously May 9, the planning minister-led extended committee of the look Commission (PC) finalised the ADP proposal of Tk 2.25 trillion, which is 10 % greater than that of the original Tk 2.05 trillion outlay and 14 % greater than the revised ADP allocations of Tk1.97 trillion for the outgoing FY2021.

The upcoming ADP will incorporate a total of just one 1,426 creation projects - 1,308 will be investment schemes and the rest of the 118 will be technical assistance (TA) projects.

Out of the total outlay, Tk 1.37 trillion fund has been proposed to come from the inner resources and the rest of the Tk 880.25 billion from the external resources as task aid.

Based on the PC, the transportation and communications sector would receive highest Tk 617.21 billion, followed by power and energy sector Tk 456.67 billion, physical infrastructure, water supply and housing sector Tk 237.47 billion, and education and religious affairs Tk 231.78 billion.

PC joint secretary Md Sayduzzaman said they put specialized emphasis on medical sector allocations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another PC official said they were very cautious this year about framing the ADP as the country was facing a new connection with deadly disease in the economy.

However, the essential sectors like well being, agriculture and social solutions would get higher allocations in the advancement budget for the next year, he added.

Meanwhile, the fast-monitor and mega development assignments were getting fund allocations according to their demands for the FY2022, the official said.

According to the Personal computer, the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project would have the best allocation of Tk184.26 billion among the mega projects.

Besides, the PC offers proposed to allocate Tk 35 billion for the government's priority project Padma Bridge engineering, Tk 48.07 billion for the MRT-6,Tk 35.87 billion for the Padma railway bridge and Tk 48 billion for the Matarbari power plant task in the upcoming ADP.
