BIFMA International, the business enterprise & Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association, has launched the BIFMA Compliant merchandise registry, an industry-huge registry of furniture products conforming to BIFMA basic safety and durability standards.
The non-profit trade association said BIFMA Compliant, which launched March 1, provides clarity to the market by differentiating products that meet the established industry standards. BIFMA, an ANSI-accredited standards developer, said it caused participants and stakeholders for practically three years to develop and implement this program, which is available to all furniture manufacturers who elect to take part.
Products in the registry can be looked at at bifma.org.
“BIFMA Compliant originated in response to an evergrowing market need for higher clarity,” said BIFMA President and CEO Deirdre Jimenez AIA, NCIDQ. “The look network who specifies furniture and the clients who buy furniture have both expressed the necessity to more easily identify products they trust - products that will be safe and can perform. With the increased need to work remotely, the use of this reference is a lot more timely. BIFMA Compliant is normally available to the general public, both commercial consumers and residential consumers."
“Products found in the registry should be tested within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited check lab with the ANSI/BIFMA standards listed found in the check lab’s Scope of Accreditation. In addition, products are put through test record audits,” said BIFMA Technical Director of Safeness and Efficiency Dave Panning.
“BIFMA Compliant is a very important resource providing the necessary information to differentiate merchandise safety and functionality,” he added.
The brand new BIFMA Compliant program complements the existing LEVEL Sustainability program. Both registries run on an Ecomedes platform made to optimize product purchasing.
Since 1973, BIFMA has been developing furniture safeness, durability, and sustainability standards that establish parameters for item performance. The association gets results to educate the network on the proper make use of these specifications; hosts merchandise registries to aid customer buying confidence; publishes industry figures; and advocates for regulatory conditions that enhance benefit and foster innovation.
