Conflicting Galaxy S10 Leaks Show Either Great Or Terrible Battery Life Is Expected

Two new reports supply conflicting details about the battery capacity of Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphones from the Galaxy S10 series. According to the industry insider Ice Universe, the Galaxy S10 Plus will feature a 4,100mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 4,000mAh power pack included with the Galaxy Note 9. The handset’s battery is also substantially larger than the rumored 3,000mAh battery capacity of the Galaxy S10 E. He also mentioned that the device will have a thickness of 7.8 millimeters.

However, a certification coming from the ANATEL, the telecommunications regulator of Brazil, supplies different details about the battery capacities of the Galaxy S10 lineup. ANATEL released certificates for three different batteries with the model numbers EB-BG970ABU, EB-BG973ABU, and EB-BG975ABU. These identifiers suggest that the Galaxy S10 E, the Galaxy S10 Edge, and the Galaxy S10 Plus will use these power packs, respectively. Aside from contradicting the information shared by industry insiders, the certification also contrasts with earlier reports which mention that the Galaxy S10 Edge will feature a 3,500mAh battery. Previous articles also state that the 5G variant of the Galaxy S10, reportedly named as the Galaxy S10 X, will sport a 5,000mAh battery.

Background: Based on the precedent set by earlier flagship smartphone offerings of Samsung Electronics, variants of the device with larger screens usually feature bigger power packs. For example, the Galaxy S8, Samsung’s flagship handset from early 2017, and the Galaxy S9, the tech firm’s premium offering from last year, both contain a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8 Plus and the Galaxy S9 Plus include a larger 3,500mAh power pack. Therefore, it is more plausible that the larger smartphones will have larger battery capacities compared to the smaller versions of the device, and it is possible that the certification issued by ANATEL more likely refers only to the Galaxy S10 E.

Aside from the battery capacity offered by the Galaxy S10 devices, earlier leaks already supplied information about the specifications of the Galaxy S10. Depending on the market, the devices will feature either the Snapdragon 855 chipset or the Exynos 9820 SoC. The RAM and internal storage capacities differ for every model of the Galaxy S10, with the Galaxy S10 E and the Galaxy S10 Edge sporting 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, while the Galaxy S10 Plus features 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 512GB, or 1TB of internal storage. Recent reports mention that the Galaxy S10 lineup will ship with Android 9 Pie, with the latest version of Samsung's proprietary skin, One UI, running on top of Google’s operating system.
