Germany turning into Bangladesh's leading export destination

Germany has become a leading destination for exporting Bangladeshi goods, thank to the quality products and competitive price range, sources in the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) said.

A huge number of global business partners including Germany prefer Bangladeshi readymade garments (RMG), leather goods and other products as these have been maintaining international standard.

Bangladesh has been manufacturing a wide variety of goods and different types and styles of garments using modern technologies. All kinds of RMG products including shirts, trousers, jackets, t-shirt, sweater, shoes, hats, jackets, skirts, trousers, belts, wallpapers and furniture coverings are exported to different countries from Bangladesh.

According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), local exporters have made shipment of goods worth $5.58 billion to Germany in the last fiscal year which was 9 percent more than the previous year. During the time local exporters have made shipment worth $5.35 billion to US market which was 2.85 percent more compared to the corresponding time in the previous year.

Siddiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said it is a positive sign for local exporters, as Germany has become a leading importer of local products. He said Bangladesh has a good relation with Germany in terms of trade. Economic condition of Germany is  also very good. That's why export of our garments to Germany has tremendously increased.

He said, in recent times, though RMG exports have reduced in the US market, but this helped Germany to take the leading position.

Mohammad Rezaul Karim, General Manager of Dhaka Hide and Skin Ltd said, "We need technical knowledge and skilled manpower to grab the global markets. The sector also needs government assistance."

Manufacturers should diversify their products as normal design is unable to attract the buyers in EU market. The EU customers always choose innovative products, he said.
