Govt formulating mild engineering development policy

The government is attempting to formulate a mild engineering production policy with the purpose of strengthening the contribution of the domestic light engineering industry to the nationwide economy.

The policy will be finalized with stakeholders soon, according to a virtual dialogue on the progress of activities organized by the Ministry of Industries for the creation of the mild engineering industry, said a news release.

Sectors Secretary KM Ali Azam presided over the discussion.

Further Secretary of the Ministry of Sectors Md Zafar Ullah, Director Basic of Bangladesh Industrial Complex Assistance Center (BITAC) Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Project Director of Equipment and Technology Institute Dr Syed Md Ihsanul Karim, Joint Secretary of Commerce Ministry Jinat Ara, Deputy Secretary of ERD Abdul Quader, Initial Secretary of National Board of Income (VAT Policy) Kazi Farid Uddin and Deputy Secretary of Financial Institutions Section Mohammad Enamul Haque, among others, joined the discussion.

The meeting also instructed to make important proposals with stakeholders of the industry, including BITAC, SME Basis and BSCIC, for inclusion in the budget in the interest of the domestic light engineering industry.

It was informed at the assembly that an initiative has been taken up to send a good list to Bangladesh Lender to ensure incentives for other small and medium enterprises including light engineering sectors which have been damaged due to the coronavirus situation.

In his speech, KM Ali Azam directed BSCIC to create a new cell on the light engineering industry with high priority and intensify the course of action of creating get better at trainers for engineers and employees working in light engineering industries at Dholairpar in Old Dhaka.
