Light engineering sector contributes 3% to GDP

Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners Association (BEIOA) President Md Abdur Razzak on Monday said that the contribution of the light engineering sector to the GDP is around three percent.

He made the remark while addressing a press conference on awareness escalating program about BEIOA-SEIP (Skills for Employment Investment Program) project to develop skills of light engineering sector workers.

He said, "The training courses under BEIOA-SEIP project would contribute to raising the production capacity and the quality of products. There are 4000 light engineering industries in the country at present, where around eight lakh employees are currently involved. The contribution of this sector to the GDP is around three percent."

Light engineering industry is one of the five potential sectors under the project, Razzak said, mentioning that this public-private partnership (PPP) program will fulfill the future demand of the skilled workforce in the sector.
