The Chinese Android smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, founded back in 2013, has earned a reputation for building full-featured flagship devices with a pure, streamlined Android operating system at great price points. More recently, the OnePlus 6 and 6T series earned high marks among the press and analyst community for being decked-out with the latest features, along with big 6-inch+ displays, lots of RAM and storage, all at well under $600 USD unlocked and off carrier contract. This morning, the company held a multi-city event, specifically anchored in New York, where it unveiled the OnePlus 7 Pro. This new flagship device from OnePlus could very well go down as the most well-equipped Android handset this year, and at a price point that will be very hard to beat.

The OnePlus 7 Pro was officially unveiled today and it is expected to be available for purchase at OnePlus.com or from T-Mobile, in Nebula Blue, Mirror Grey and Almond color options. This is a large format device with a bodacious 6.67-inch OLED display that is both HDR10+ compliant, sports a super-tight 3120x1440 screen resolution (516ppi) with double-curved glass edges, and also supports a 90Hz refresh rate for buttery-smooth visuals from screen animations to gaming and video media consumption. And yes people, we have no notch. Nothing. Zilch. It's edge-to-edge glass all around here. So where did OnePlus hide the front-facing camera? The OnePlus 7 Pro has a pop-up 16MP selfie cam and I dare say it's more than up to the task.

During one video demo on stage, the OnePlus 7 Pro was seen supporting a 50 pound concrete block that was hooked on to its popup selfie camera, as it lift the block off the floor. No question the claim here was robust endurance. Historically, OnePlus phones weren't known for their camera prowess. However, OnePlus is definitely upping its game with the OnePlus 7 Pro, which is now equipped with a "state-of-the-art" 48 megapixel sensor with OIS (optical image stabilization), an 8 megapixel 78mm telephoto lens at f/2.4 and 1µm pixel size and stabilized by OIS, along with yet another 16 megapixel 117° ultra-wide angle lens at f/2.2. This rear triple-camera array should bring great shot flexibility, from low light situations to wide angle shots and artistic bokeh affects in Portrait mode.

The OnePlus 7 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm's excellent Snapdragon 55 mobile platform SoC and backed by up to 12GB of RAM on board, along with up to 256GB of storage. The device will also sport a capacious 4000 mAh battery for what should be excellent all-day battery life capability.

“We constantly challenge ourselves to give people the best experience possible,” said Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus. “A great user experience should enhance your life instead of distracting you from it. I’m so proud of what we’ve built with the OnePlus 7 Pro, and can’t wait for others to try out the display.”

Finally, OnePlus also claims the OnePlus 7 Pro's Warp Charge feature will charge "a battery-drained OnePlus 7 Pro to up to almost half of its massive 4,000 mAh battery, in just 20 minutes."

The OnePlus 7 Pro will also have a stereo dual-speaker setup with Dolby audio and what the company is claiming will be a "powerful amplifier." In addition, the device will provide multiple levels of haptic feedback for gaming and will also be liquid cooled internally, reportedly to allow the device to remain cool even under heavy-duty gaming workloads for extended duration.

Word is there's a OnePlus 7 5G variant as well that has been announced in Europe, but details are scant on availability of the device here in the US. The best news of all perhaps is that while you may have thought, "here comes another $1K phone," that would be an incorrect assumption. OnePlus says the OnePlus 7 Pro will be available starting at $669 and also in a standard 8GB RAM / 256GB storage variant through T-Mobile at $699.

That's good business right there and the OnePlus 7 Pro could very well be the Android flagship smartphone value of the year.
