Stocks witness flat as large-cap securities move down

Stocks witnessed flat yesterday as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges were found slightly down due to lower activities of some large-cap securities. The falling major sectors were financial institutions, tannery, ceramics, and engineering. A total of 202 large-cap securities moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 32.03 points down at 4,855.99. The blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 7.42 points down at 1,123.21. But, the Shariah DSES closed the day with 0.08 points up at 1,735.93. The volume of shares fell to 9.73 crores from Wednesday’s 9.76 crore shares. But, the daily turnover in value at the DSE increased to Taka

384.96 crore from the previous session of Taka 371.54 crore. At the DSE, price of 46 securities out of the day’s 353 traded issues closed higher against 269 losing issues. The major rising issues were GP, National Life Insurance, AIBL1STIMF, EBL, and Provati Insurance. The major losing issues were BIFC, Fortune, Monno Ceramics, GQ Ball Pen and National Tubes.

National Tubes topped the turnover list followed by Fortune, Square Pharma, Monno Stafflers and Beacon Pharma. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with a downward trend with its major CASPI 87.63 points down at 14,760.59.

Of the 260 issues traded. Of those, 44 closed higher and 190 closed lower while 58.66 lakh shares worth Taka 17.78 crore changed hands.
