Several student organisations have expressed solidarity with the recent protests at the privatisation of the state-owned jute mills.
On September 30, a platform titled ‘Students against Privatisation of Jute Mills’ held a protest in front of the National Museum.
Student Federation Bangladesh’s general secretary Jahid Sujan said in the programme, ‘The jute industry or Bangladesh is decaying because of weak policy and corruption. To provide usage of Indian industry in this huge market, the federal government is deliberately closing jute mills.’
Socialist Students’ Front’s central member Aril Mainuddin said, ‘The government serves the interest of different syndicates instead of the public interest.’
Activists of student organisations, university teachers, labour organisation activists and cultural activists also took part in the protests.
