The students of Population Science and Human Resources Development (PSHRD) department of Rajshahi University’s (RU) formed human chain on the campus yesterday demanding inclusion of PSHRD subject code at Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC).

They also brought out a procession from in front of Third Science Building of the campus and parading different roads of the campus that terminated in front of university Senate Building.

Following the rally, they formed human chain programme on Saturday around 12pm of the campus. According to the job market demand, the university authorities opened the department in 1996 and it is one the oldest department of the campus, but the subject is yet to be including in the PSC subject code.

“As there is no specific subject code for PSHRD department in PSC, we face problems in getting jobs both in the government and private sectors. Sometimes, we cannot apply for the jobs we are eligible for, as the recruitment authorities do not include our subject in the job circular”, Nure Alahi Sohag, a 4th student of the department. Even, in the recruitment for the jobs that sought equivalent degree they have, the students were rejected during viva voce only for their subject.

Chairman of PSHRD Prof Dr Nazrul Islam Mondol said, “We submitted letter to University Grand commission (UGC) office thorough university vice-chancellor office but UGC did not response to us till now. Student’s demonstration is logical but I, personally, requested them to attend class and examination to reduce session jam but they boycotted for unidentified period. Even, university authority did not give them satisfied assurance though they are demanding their demands from several years.” University Proctor Prof Dr Luthfor Rahman said, “We also want solution by giving to them subject code and we are very cooperative to them.”
