Tesla opens reservations for Cybertrucks in China

Electric powered vehicle manufacturer Tesla exposed reservations because of its all-electric Cybertruck - not likely to get into production until late 2021 - in China for 1,000 Chinese yuan (Dh517.50).

Unveiled in November this past year, the unconventional-looking auto marks the company's earliest foray into pick-up trucks, a market dominated simply by Detroit car manufacturers Ford and General Motors.

“The most notable three selling vehicles in America are pick-up trucks. To solve sustainable energy, we have to possess a pick-up vehicle," Tesla's billionaire leader Elon Musk explained while unveiling the vehicle at a media event in LA last year.

Tesla, whose Model 3 sedan may be the world's top-selling electric car, first opened reservations for Cybertrucks in america in November for $100 (Dh367).

Within a week, Mr Musk tweeted that there have been 250,000 reservations for the vehicle.

Tesla said that potential Cybertruck buyers in China may also book the entire self-driving (FSD) bundle, which is currently unavailable in its automobiles, for $9,000 (Dh33,030). The same program has been promoted in america for $8,000.

It said that by reserving the FSD bundle for trucks nowadays, they can protect themselves from probable price rises for the technology when it becomes commercially available.

Tesla is offering three types of Cybertrucks.

The cheapest, a single motor and rear-wheel travel version, will sell from Dh146,433 and production is expected to get started in late 2022, the business said.

The mid-range model, with a dual-motor, all-wheel get, will cost at Dh183,133. The top-of-the-range truck, coming in at Dh256,533, will have three electrical motors and all-wheel drive.

Development for dual- and tri-motor trucks will start late next yr, the company said.

Tesla is yet to announce the spot that the trucks will end up being built.

In March, Mr Musk said the company was scouting several practical spots for Cybertruck production and was likely to build them anywhere in the center of the US.

The market for electric trucks is warming up.
