Tesla picks Indian status of Karnataka to accommodate its EV manufacturing unit

Billionaire Elon Musk's Tesla might create an electric-car manufacturing unit found in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, according to a government document.

"The US organization Tesla will be starting an electric car manufacturing facility in Karnataka," the state said in a brief statement.

The statement was part of a broader document outlining the highlights of India's budget to its people in the neighborhood language of Kannada.

Last month, the electrical carmaker included Tesla Motors India and Energy using its registered office in metropolis of Bengaluru on Karnataka, a hub for global technology companies.

Talk about chief minister B. S. Yediyurappa had after that explained in a tweet, that was subsequently deleted, that Tesla would start its procedures in India with a research and development device in Bengaluru.

It had been not immediately clear if the Saturday statement was discussing the same unit.

Tesla and any office of Karnataka point out chief minister did not immediately react to requests for comments.
