Travellers in the US can now sleep in a giant potato

Idaho has taken its love for potatoes one step further with the transformation of an oversized potato into a hotel.
Travellers that want to immerse themselves in the Gem State’s most famous crop can now bed down inside a giant potato located 32 kilometres from downtown Boise.
The Big Idaho Potato Hotel is an eight-metre long, three-metre wide, 3.5-metre tall potato constructed out of steel, concrete and plaster that took a year to build.
Recycled into an Airbnb after spending seven years on the road with The Big Idaho Potato Truck — a marketing initiative that journeys cross-country promoting the health benefits of potatoes — the six-tonne potato can now comfortably sleep two guests.
Inside, the surprisingly tastefully decorated space comes with whitewashed walls and a dose of Scandi-style minimalism. There’s a queen-size bed, an antler-inspired chandelier and a cosy seating area with a fully stocked bookshelf. Newly installed electricity points power a mini fridge and a record player, which comes with a selection of old vinyls.
Step outside the potato to find a customised silo that’s been turned into a spa-like bathroom with running water, a power shower, log-stocked fireplace and circular whirlpool underneath a glass skylight.
The setting is decidedly peaceful — guests will be surrounded by 400 acres of Idaho farmland with only a cute Jersey cow called Dolly as a neighbour.
